SIGNATURE JOURNEY · TUNISIA

FROM CARTHAGE TO THE SAHARA

Discover Southern Tunisia by mountain bike.

22–31 January 2027 · 10 days · Maximum 5 riders

Limited Edition

I invite you to join me on a journey from the Mediterranean coast to the edge of the Sahara.

We begin in Tunis, the city where I was born. From the ruins and Punic ports of Carthage to the streets, courtyards and cafés of the old medina, I will introduce you to the history and everyday life of the city before we begin moving south.

Near Bizerte, we take our first ride together while discovering Tunisia’s northern coast. We then leave the Mediterranean behind and travel towards Matmata, where troglodyte homes carved into the earth became part of Tatooine in Star Wars. Beyond, in the Dahar, ancient ksour and Amazigh villages emerge from the stone.

The heart of the journey is a four-day mountain-bike crossing towards the Sahara. Together, we follow remote tracks through rocky plateaus, valleys and increasingly open desert landscapes.

I will ride with you and accompany the group throughout the ten days. During the crossing, my brother will join us with a 4×4 support vehicle, carrying our luggage, water and equipment.

Our ride ends in Douz, at the edge of the Sahara. Some of the places, encounters and moments I have prepared will remain undisclosed until we experience them together.

WHO IS THIS JOURNEY FOR?

This journey is intended for curious, active travellers who want to discover Tunisia through its history, people and landscapes—and who are comfortable doing so from a mountain bike.

You do not need to be a competitive cyclist, but you should ride regularly, have an intermediate level of mountain-bike experience and feel comfortable cycling for several hours on four consecutive days.

You should already have experience riding on unpaved or rocky terrain and be prepared for remote landscapes, changing surfaces, wind and sand.

The group is limited to five riders. I will speak personally with every applicant before confirming a place.

The riding

We ride through the Dahar, a mountain range recently designated a UNESCO Global Geopark and one of the most authentic, iconic corners of southern Tunisia, where the deserted mountains slowly open onto the Sahara. Along the way, the land keeps its surprises: a Roman temple standing in the middle of the desert, among them.

We will encounter unpaved tracks, rocky sections and stretches of sand.

The provisional crossing covers approximately 373 kilometres, with around 2,740 metres of elevation gain and 3,060 metres of elevation loss. I will confirm the daily stages and riding requirements with you before you book.

The route may be adjusted for weather, safety or local conditions.

Where we stay

I favour small, family-run hotels and rural houses, where comfort, character and a personal welcome go together. I choose our accommodation with rest and recovery in mind, particularly after days on the bike. I want you to feel at home and well looked after.

The price is based on two people sharing a room. Couples can request a double bed, and friends can request separate beds, subject to availability.

If you are joining on your own, you can request to share with another participant or choose an individual room for an additional €400. I will confirm the arrangement with you before you book.

Our night in the desert is in shared bivouac accommodation.

Optional arrangements

Individual room · +€400

If you would prefer your own room, I can arrange this subject to availability. Desert accommodation remains shared.

Mountain-bike rental

Bring your own mountain bike or ask me to arrange one locally. I will confirm the rental cost before you book.

Independent arrival

If you are making your own travel arrangements, we can meet directly in Tunis. I will confirm the arrangements and applicable total price with you before you book.

Personal expenses

Allow separately for travel to and from Barcelona Airport, personal mountain-bike insurance, alcoholic drinks and personal purchases. If you bring your bicycle by plane, I will confirm any additional airline bicycle-carriage charge before you book.

Insurance and equipment

Each participant must have personal travel and medical insurance covering mountain biking, emergency assistance and repatriation throughout the journey. The basic travel insurance included in the price does not replace this cover.

I will send you a detailed equipment list before departure. A helmet is compulsory. If you bring your own bicycle, it must be serviced and ready for the journey.
